Visit of a delegation of second-year students to the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol of the University of A Coruña

On Wednesday, June 21st, 2023, a representation of 34 students of the second year (ASP 2) of the degree in mechanical engineering visited the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol (EPEF) belonging to the University of A Coruña (UDC). The CUD-ENM professors Mr. Miguel Ángel Álvarez Feijoo, Mr. Pedro Carrasco and Mr. Antonio Eirís accompanied the students in the first visit organized by the CUD-ENM to the EPEF.

The delegation was received by the Deputy Director of the EPEF, Mr. Marcos Lema Rodríguez, and by Professor Marcos Míguez González, who briefly presented the campus and the variety of degrees offered.

After this brief introduction, the visit began, which consisted of a tour of the hydrodynamic flume and wind tunnels in the Fluid Mechanics laboratory, as well as a lecture on renewable energies and the potential of offshore wind combined with green hydrogen generation, given by Dr. Claudio Rodriguez Castillo from Glasgow Strathcycle University.

During the visit to the hydrodynamic flume, the students were able to witness the execution of a hydrodynamic drag test, as well as the operation of the wave generator. Mr. Marcos Míguez explained to the students the different types of tests carried out in the channel, as well as the instrumentation used in them. The visitors also had the opportunity to see a model of a ship and several underwater vehicles used in research projects.

During the visit to the Fluid Mechanics laboratories, Professor Marcos Lema Rodríguez explained in detail the operation of the two wind tunnels used by EPEF both for teaching purposes and for research projects, and showed details about the instrumentation used to measure the velocities and forces in the tested model.
